If you want to pump life into your gift basket business follow these simple tips. Put into action the following ideas, secrets, publicity and marketing tips to get good results for your home based gift basket business. It’s a good way to end up with increased profits and in-demand proven products for gift basket businesses and save money.

If you need to kickstart your current business or if you’re just starting out, focus on putting together and marketing JUST ONE stunning, unusual, specialty, theme gift basket. You’ll be testing the market without a huge investment in inventory, get tremendous exposure and virtually be eliminating the competition. Pick something unusual, unique, even off the wall — not traditional basket themes like birthday, sympathy, get well, thank you, etc. Everybody does those.

For a specialty basket theme, just for example, let’s pick one that is medical-related. Nurses and doctors are a busy bunch. They are usually overworked and can’t seem to ever get enough time off to recuperate or shop. They’ll love being the buyer of or the recipient of your medical-theme gift basket. We’ll call it the “Nurses’ Gift Basket” or “Nurses’ Appreciation Gift Basket”.

Because you’re focusing on one basket theme it’ll be a lot easier to pick your products or items. Besides poring through directories and catalogs of gift basket supplies (wholesale for good discounts), browse through nurses’ uniform and supply catalogs. Make arrangements to buy your smaller items wholesale. You may have to buy directly from the manufacturer or distributor.

If you know any nurses, ask them what kind of items they might like to get in a gift basket? You’ll want to think fun and luxury and maybe a couple of small useable medical items. Also include some fruit, chocolate, specialty tea or coffee foil packets, cinnamon sticks, etc., if it works with your other items.

If possible try to buy most of your items though one or two suppliers with a wide variety of merchandise. You’ll save on shipping. Keep in mind they often require minimum orders. It’s so much easier and cheaper than multiple accounts through several suppliers of individual items. Once you’ve decided on the products or items, set up an account through the wholesale order department. Order in small quantities in the beginning so you’re not tying up cash, or maxing out credit cards. Also you need time to decide on whether you picked a good theme or not. Test the waters with a couple of baskets first.

Magic catalogs always have a wide variety of hilarious medical items. Including some funny items in your inventory is a good idea. Order these through the wholesale department, if they have one. If you live in or near a large city you should be able to find a good magic store to browse through. You may find items cheap enough to use for your gift baskets and save on large orders and shipping. Ask for a quantity discount – 5%-20%. You can negotiate prices even in retail stores. They want to move inventory.

In some cases you’ll need to order directly from the manufacturer. You can easily find contact information on the Internet. But rather than sending an email, it’s better to call them directly. When introducing yourself to a new wholesale supplier for the first time, by phone is best.

Now that you know what theme you’re going to start with and know where you’re going to get your products and items, the next step is working up your marketing plan. I recommend drawing up the plan before you do any ordering of products. You can also query the nurses in your local hospital to see if they would be interested in ordering your gift baskets. They’d be good customers because of their contact with many co-workers and friends in the medical field.

As part of your marketing plan you can make up some business cards cheaply that focus on the medical or chosen theme. Because of the nature of your basket — it’s uniqueness and because medical personnel are revered in the community, you should be able to get good media (print and broadcast) exposure – you’ve got a ‘hook’.

A press release is easy to write. Draw up something simple that announces your business. Focus on your basket medical theme or whatever theme you’ve picked. Write out answers to who, what, where, when and why to make sure you include all the important information. Keep it simple. Type it on letterhead, white paper and one side, one page only. Double-space if possible, but single space is fine. Keep it short. No flowery adjectives. Just state the facts. No pitching or selling. Call to get the correct mailing addresses of your local daily AND weekly newspapers. They often have post office boxes because they get so much mail.

It’ll be well worth the time and effort in wide exposure and increased sales. Because your theme is so unusual they may want to do a story or feature on you. Editors are inundated with email. Direct mailing is best. Send out the two releases, each in it’s own envelope to every newspaper on your list. Address one envelope to ‘Editor’ and the other to ‘Lifestyle Editor’, but not in quotes.

You can also follow up by faxing a copy of each but first you’ll need to call and get the fax number for the ‘newsroom’. Newspapers have dozens of fax machines and you’ll want it to go to the right one.

Another marketing tool you may want to consider — giving some baskets away free by auctioning off a basket or two for charity and sending out a press release to the media to announce the event. The media loves anything free and combined with a charitable event may insure good coverage. Pick a good local charity, perhaps one involving children. You may be able to auction your gift baskets off during one of their large events or regional meetings. The charity volunteers may help by contacting the press and mentioning your medical-theme gift baskets as auction items.

Once you’ve tested your market locally and have enjoyed a certain amount of success with your new products for your gift basket business, then it’s time to set up a website and to add another specialty gift basket to your line.

Adding the right new products to your gift basket business and having a good marketing plan are an important part of your gift basket business. With good free media exposure your sales will soar and your profits will explode! Guaranteed!

I found a phrase on a baby announcement that I would like to change to work for a baby shower invitation (for a girl).

The phrase is:
The pitter patter
of little feet
Have made our
lives complete!

I still want to use the first two lines "The pitter patter of little feet" but want to change the last two so it would work for a baby shower invitation!!!

Any ideas? Thanks!

the pitter patter of little feet,
anticipating the sound so sweet,

we will be blessed with such joy,
whether a girl or whether a boy,

so bring a treat or just some love,
to help celebrate our gift from above

Do you see life as a challenge to overcome? A party to enjoy? A struggle to endure? People have many different approaches to life. Some may work well for us, others may not.

The Eight of Wands illustrates one way to face life; as a wonderful opportunity. If we rush along thinking everything will be great we may well create good things just by our attitude. A happy friendly person is easier to get along with than a dour one. They are natural risk takers good at making things happen and change. They are good in business or invention. A downside of this attitude though is that sometimes in any life bad things happen, what does someone with this attitude do at these times? They can fall to the ground in a big heap as though their happy balloon has been punctured. They could see it as an opportunity to learn and get through that way. This is the challenge with this attitude, to learn to deal with disappointments.

The Seven of Cups is another way to face life; refuse to accept it as it is. Someone who lives in this way lives mostly in their own head. Their life is full of fantasy and wonderful dreams. This is great if they can express these fantasies, for example, if they are a poet or painter. Their imagination then can bring wonder to other people’s lives. The world needs this type of people. It can also be useful if their lives are a bit grim. Sometimes retreating to a fantasy world can help us endure times that are less than pleasant. The problem comes when the fantasy world overtakes reality or stops us from changing our reality. The challenge with this attitude to life is to embed it in reality.

The Seven of Pentacles is another way to deal with life; by being extremely practical. These people look only to the long term, are not risk takers and plan everything very far ahead. Their lives are full of routine, organisation and structure. This is good if they are the lawmakers and bankers in the world. We need people to keep things running. We need food to get from here to there, money to move from here to there. They also help keep society from breaking down. They are the people who always send birthday cards and always ring their parents. They keep society functioning. Their challenge is to learn the pleasure that comes from taking risks and the joy that comes from artistic expression.

In life we need these different types of people; we can class them as inventors, dreamers and bankers. Each of us has one primary way of looking at life which can be moulded over time but doesn’t normally change. It is embedded within our genes. As we grow we have to learn the restrictions and advantages of our way of approaching the world. When faced with something very difficult for our personality type, such as a chaotic situation for a banker type of person, then the challenge is to learn a way to deal with it.

By knowing what sort of person we are we can gain clues about what situations would throw us and how to deal with them. Consider your approach to life. Does it fit into the descriptions above? If not can you clearly define it? By taking a little time to think about this next time something comes along that upsets your internal balance you can think ‘Ah! I know why I don’t like this. I need …’ It’s only by knowing yourself that you’ll know how to fill in the blanks. Most people learn these things about themselves over a lifetime. Perhaps by taking 30 minutes to think about it you can learn a bit quicker!

You’ve always had the dream, you want to go for it, but you hesitate cause you’re not quite sure how to enter the market. You know that if given the opportunity, that you would rise to the occasion, do it and be successful! That’s a common theme among singers who want to embark upon a career as a jingle or session singer. As a former talent booking agent with the William Morris Agency, I can attest to the frustration that many feel trying to break into the singing market. In this article I will attempt to describe some ways and ideas that you can incorporate into your singing career and hopefully one day you will look back with a roster of singing clients and artists and jingle houses who have used you on numerous recording sessions.

As a professional session singer myself, singing on numerous sessions and jingles, I can attest to the degree of apprehension that many young artists face today with the ebb and flow of not only competition, but the degree of difficulty marketing themselves as qualified and able singing talent. Let me embrace your desire for singing success, but also encourage you that there is always, as they say, room at the top – And beyond that, there is also always room for those who push and market themselves well. So there is hope and there is room for you to break into the music industry as a session singer and fulfill your dreams. Let’s look at some key concepts to get you there.

First off, what are you doing right now that’s relevant in obtaining and getting you to your dream of becoming a session singer? Are you just dreaming, or have you started a career blueprint for success? I’m very serious about creating a workable game plan to get you to your goals. I wish that success just fell in everyone’s lap, but unfortunately it sometimes takes a lot of effort and push. I want you to, everyday, start working on defining your main goal. Do you want to be an all around session singer, or do you want to specialize in jingle singing and the money that can be made in that market? After you have defined your main goal, understand that sometimes, everyone’s goals take twists and turns in the road no matter how well defined. Sometimes an individual who produces this or that type of music takes a liking to your singer reel and starts giving you all kinds of work. You need to create goals based on today, this week, this month, year and five year goal plans. Make sure that you are very defined in your goals. Now you have to get there – Let’s look at some concepts to get you there.

In any business, image is everything. I heard the story of a dentist who started his business and wasn’t obtaining as many clients as he would have liked to. He decided that he would go out and purchase a fancy convertible parked out in front of his office. You know what happened? – Because his image was of success and because people thought he was successful, his business took off and he became a very successful dentist. Your convertible is going to be your singer demo reel and any bio and pictures that go out with it. Unfortunately, so many individuals want to be stars and the stories go on and on when you are in the music industry about this individual or that individual, who don’t even have the basic marketing items, namely their singing reel, but want you to represent them. These folks want you to spend all of your time marketing and doing all of the work that they could have and should have been done, for free. In terms that anyone can understand, your demo reel has to sound like it was produced by some of the best in the industry. You can not afford to go over to a friend’s house hoping that with a computer, keyboard and a mic, that you can put together a singer demo reel that gets you work. Your demo has to be the quality of that fancy convertible we were talking about. Competition dictates that you absolutely have the best singer demo available. You might want to visit ReelMusician.com for any questions or ideas about singer demo reels, artist bio’s, etc. Many Free e-books and information is also available. Whatever you do, your demo has to shine and you need to look successful like you’ve been doing this kind of work as a seasoned session singer for years.

Your approach to how you contact and follow up with producers, jingle houses and various music industry personnel is going to be key. Some individuals really benefit from actually writing down potential questions and rehearsing their answers and potential questions they might ask the producer before they get started. You will need to have a succinct way in which you keep records of individuals that you talk with after demos have been sent out. Be very detailed including, time, date, type of singing work, response, misc info and of course names and contact numbers. Your weekly goals ought to incorporate how many individuals you are going to contact, follow up contacts, and thank you or birthday cards when appropriate. I’ve mentioned this in other articles, but actually sending out your demo by snail mail is probably more effective then emailing an mp3. While emailing is virtually free, the effort is not as great. People like to get mail, open up their mail and with your picture, bio and incredible sounding and professional looking singer demo package; you have a much greater chance of being called on. After you develop a relationship with certain individuals, you might be able to email a current mp3, but I wouldn’t advise it prior to developing a relationship and their permission.

In closing, you will want to possibly look at multiple singer reels, so that your name and contact numbers cross a potential client’s desk a few times. This is very helpful and sometimes is the factor that ultimately pushes you to success. Don’t be afraid to ask for singing work. Tell them that you are a seasoned singer and want to develop a professional singing relationship with them and plain want the opportunity to work together. Don’t be afraid to push a little, but always with kindness and a great attitude.

She's definitely having a girl . . . the other baby will let them see what it is!

Why not try a neutral color, like green or yellow? And you could make your own style of shower invitation by including a poem.

I found these poems at:

http://www.geocities.com/zoeyl_au/TwinsPoetry.html

~Your Twins~
The heavens were excited -
(statistics were just right)
"Gather 'round," the wisest angel said,
"God's designing twins tonight."
It's quite a marvelous process,
As anybody knows -
Two separate souls begin their lives,
As His love just overflows.
Perhaps he'll make them just alike,
Or as different as can be,
But that's the way He wants it -
He's planned it that way you see.
He must then find a loving Mom,
A very special Dad -
For twins take special parents,
And the best just must be had

~Old Noah~
Old Noah thought his ark was full
and waited for the rain
but our house wasn't quite full yet
to us twas very plain
but now the happy time has come
we proudly show our grins
another pair has come on board
Please welcome our new twins

Credit card and Identity theft are a great cause for concern for anyone who has a good credit rating and credit cards that they use regularly. Often thieves will steal someone’s identity and then go on to run up a host of bills in that person’s name. By the time a person realizes what has taken place, it is often too late to do much about it. So the real question is how can you fight back against these criminals and keep your good name intact as well as your credit and money.

Recently the right to freeze credit reports and stopping credit from being issued in a person’s name has become available. By locking down your credit, nobody can get your credit file or details to run up credit in your name leaving you to deal with the bill.

Who can lock down their credit?

Almost anyone can lock down his or her credit. Since 2003, when California allowed its residents to lock down their credit reports, other states have began to follow suit including New Jersey, Louisiana, Nevada, Connecticut, Maine, North Carolina and Colorado. Other states such as Texas, Illinois, Vermont, and Washington will only allow victims of identity theft or those who have fallen victim to a security breach to freeze their credit reports. If your area is not listed here, then by inquiring at any one of the three major credit-reporting agencies you should be able to find out what your state allows.

Anyone can ask the major credit reporting companies to place a fraud alert on a credit report. How this benefits you is that the company alerts you when credit is requested and you are asked permission to proceed with the credit. There is one problem with this method and that is creditors are not required to check the alert or even ask your permission.

A credit freeze takes the next step in security enforcement. With a credit freeze nobody can open any type of credit line under your name or even gain access to your credit file. What this means is that your credit details are off limits to everyone even credit lenders, insurance companies and potential employers.

How does a credit freeze work?

Credit freeze is quite simple really, but very effective. What happens is, when credit is requested, for example a credit card, cell phone or even a personal loan, the company that is considering giving the credit will call one of the three credit reporting companies to ask for access to your credit file. If you have already requested a freeze on your file then the credit reporting company will tell the creditor that they don’t have access to the file as it is frozen. You can just about guarantee that no creditor in their right mind will proceed with a line of credit that has a frozen file.

What if I want credit?

If you want credit or you need a background check for a potential employer, it is not a problem at all. What actually happens is that the three major credit reporting companies give you a personal identification number, or a PIN, that allows you to freeze and unfreeze your credit report when you need to.

If a criminal manages to get your name, address, social security number and even your birthday, with the protection of a credit freeze they don’t stand a chance at getting credit, no matter how good they are.

How do I get a Credit Freeze on my files?

In order to lock down your credit, you will need to contact each of the three credit reporting companies. If you are the victim of identity theft and are reporting from a police or law enforcement agency, the fee is usually waived. Other residents who are not under direct identity theft lock down may be asked to pay a fee to each of the three credit reporting agencies.

This fee is usually quite low and, considering the benefits of having a credit freeze on your account, the few dollars that are spent are well worth it for the piece of mind that you will have knowing that your credit, good name and assets are locked down and secured at all times. None of the credit reporting agencies charge to have credit report freezes lifted, however, there will be charges for those who want to temporarily lift their freeze, even if they are victims of identity theft.

What do the credit reporting agencies need?

Each of the three credit reporting companies require a certain procedure to be followed in order to have your credit report frozen. Below are the requirements needed for each company:

Equifax: Equifax requires that all communication with regards to this procedure be sent via certified mail. In the body of the letter you are required to state your name, address, including previous addresses, social security number and your date of birth.

Payment must be made by check, money order or by a credit card. If a credit card is the chosen option, then the name of the card, account number and expiration date must be included. ID theft victims should also put a valid copy of a police report, investigation report or a valid complaint that has been filed with a law enforcement agency.

Experian: Experian requires that you send all communication via certified mail. In the letter you should include your name, including middle name, and any other identifying names, for example, Jr. or Sr. Also you will need to include a current address, and previous addresses going back as far as five years, social security number, date of birth, and proof of address. Proof of addresscan be in the form of drivers licenses, bills for utilities such as power or water, bank statements or insurance statements.

Money should be paid either by check, money order or credit card. If paying by credit card, you should include the name of the card, account number and expiry date. Victims of ID theft need to have current copies of the police report, investigation report or a valid complaint that has been filed with a law enforcement agency.

TransUnion: Communication can be sent either by regular or certified mail, although certified mail is always a safer option, as you know that the communication has been received safely by the company. You will need to include your full name, including middle initials and any other parts to your name for example Jr. or Sr. You will need to provide your current mailing address and any other addresses dating back to the last five years, date of birth and social security numbers are also required.

Payment can be made by check, money order or credit card. If paying by a credit card, you will need to include your name, account number and expiration date on your card. If you have been the victim of ID theft you will need to include your police report, investigation report or the complaint that you have filed with a law enforcement agency.

Why the credit companies don’t want you to freeze your files

There is a lot of controversy over the new interest in consumers protecting their credit by freezing it until they want to use it. Many of the credit companies claim that it will be an inconvenience to consumers, while others are saying it is much like waiting to have a car accident before letting people put seatbelts into their cars.

It appears that the biggest fear of the credit companies is the loss of control over consumers. Those who have exercised their rights and used locked down credit safety measures are unable to buy on impulse, because they have to unlock their credit before purchasing. This could mean an end to impulsive buying over the weekends and fewer purchases for credit companies. Devastating for credit companies, but an added safety feature for those who lock down their credit.

Is there anyone who can help?

There are companies out there that offer you the alternative of not having to do a lock down yourself. They also monitor your credit situation regularly for you and help you get credit when needed, for a fee. One of the great things about these companies is they stand by their promise to protect your credit by insuring each person if they do become a victim of ID theft and loose money because of the companies negligence. If you are busy, or don’t want to lock down your credit on your own these companies are a great way to protect your identity and valuables.

Don’t be caught by criminals who prey on honest citizens by stealing their identity and running up expensive credit debt. Fight back, use a credit freeze and rest assured that your assets and credit is safe from theft.

Whether their birthday is quickly approaching or Father and Mother Day are holidays you prefer to forget due to your inability to find something which can be a valuable present, a gift that you will craft yourself and will portray your own personal touch can go a long way into their hearts. Here are some easy craft ideas for those capable to open your computer and put it to work.

- Personal Music Compilation: You have heard them one thousand times. That Frank Sinatra song they were dancing last Christmas is engraved on your brain and you are catching yourself singing the lyrics every time you see a couple that resembles them crossing the street. One of the most appreciated gifts you can easily construct is that of a music CD containing all their favorite songs. You can even create the CD cover and labels on your computer and your gift can have a personal touch that will make tears fall from their eyes as they open the wrapping paper. Add a romantic photograph of them on the cover, put their theme song first and last, arrange the music according to their pleasing, and think of a good song that they do not know but will love when hearing. Improvise as much as you can and you will be glad you did.

- A Box Full of Memories: Last summer they have decided to visit Spain, but their tickets, photographs, beach shells, and museum passes have been inside a bag since then. Surprise them with a “Box from Spain.” Arrange their favorite photographs and create on your computer a collage that will cover the sides of the box. Print and place the year and their favorite Spanish phrase, which they have been using since, on top. Place the tickets and passes on a transparency paper and glue them inside the box, organize the box according to days or places, and try to create the box you would like to receive. Give them a chance to travel back in time and smile to your ingenuity.

- A Photograph Album: The photographs they have been eager to take every summer are scattered around or placed in boxes that nobody has time to open up and see anymore. Visit your local art or bookstore and purchase a couple of albums that can host most of the pictures you know they cherish. Arrange the pictures in chronological order or just grab them from the box and place them in the album while adding your own comments or imaginary dialogues. You can also create the album yourself on your computer and bind the pages together with string and ribbon. Embellish the photograph albums with your own taste, like black and white copies of photographs and experience how it feels to have something truly valuable given to them.

- A Card Box: They are always searching those small pieces of paper with those old recipes or sports scores on them, which seem to have disappeared since you remember yourself. They are always complaining and thinking they are now really old and incompetent for not remembering where they have placed their favorite cards the last time they used them. Save them the trouble of trying to locate their “valuable” pieces of paper and create a box which can have a title and display their favorite colors. Add some paper labels inside and give them the chance to feel organized and prepared when the time to use them again comes.

Creating the perfect gift for dad and mom is not that difficult. It needs some imagination and time to invest. We know you got both; you know it too. Good luck and happy crafting times!

The most important Russian holiday is New Year’s Day January 1st. During the Soviet era, people were not allowed to celebrate Christmas, so New Year’s became the most important holiday. New Year’s is a public holiday while Christmas is more of a private family holiday. Happy New Year in Russian is ‘Snovum Godom.’

Russian Orthodox Christmas is celebrated on January 7th. This is the equivalent day to December 25 in the old Russian calendar.Russians also celebrate ‘Catholic Christmas’ on December 25th and the old Russian New Year’s Day of January 14th in the Julian calendar, which they used until 1918.

Russians celebrate more holidays than Hallmark Cards. It is just one more reason to pull the cork out of the vodka bottle.

The most important holiday as far as Russian women are concerned is “International Women’s Day.” This is March 8. This holiday, that Americans have never heard of, is like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and her birthday all rolled into one. On this day, the men do all the household chores. They treat the woman of the house as Queen for a Day. They buy her a nice gift and maybe flowers.

One word of advice: Remember this day as you would your anniversary, her birthday, Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day. It is that important to a Russian woman.

One big difference between Russia and America is that Russians don’t celebrate Thanksgiving Day, Mother’s Day, or Father’s Day. They don’t celebrate any of the ethnic holidays that America has like St. Patrick’s Day, Columbus Day, or Martin Luther King Day, although I’m sure they could get behind the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day one hundred percent.

Each former Soviet Republic has its own independence day that is celebrated like Independence Day in America, although not quite to the same degree it is celebrated in America.February 23 is officially Soldier’s Day and is kind of like Father’s Day where men are honored.

May 9 is Victory Day, where the Russians celebrate victory in the great Patriotic War — what we call World War II. Every man who is a veteran is treated like a general on this day. There is much drinking and celebrating to honor the conquering war heroes.

November 7 is the Soviet holiday that commemorates the October Revolution (which actually took place in November), when the Bolsheviks took power from the Czar. The reason it is called the October revolution is because it was in the month of October in the old Russian calendar.

Remember the parades in Red Square. During this holiday, the Soviet leaders wore those big Russian fur hats while standing above Lenin’s tomb. This holiday is still celebrated by some, although not nearly as much as when the Soviets were in power.

Pascha is the Russian Orthodox equivalent to Catholic Easter. Easter is the first Sunday following the first full moon after the Spring Equinox (March 21).Pascha is the first Sunday following the first full moon after the Spring Equinox and Jewish Passover.

This was the date that the Christian Church originally celebrated Easter.Passover is the Jewish religious celebration when the Lord passed over the houses of the Israelites during the plagues that Moses visited upon the Egyptians for holding the Israelites captive. The last plague, or curse, was that the first-born sons of all the land would perish.

The Israelites were to sacrifice a lamb to God and put the blood of the lamb over their doorstep. By doing so, they would be Passed Over by the plague, and their first-born would be spared.

To Christians, Jesus represented the Lamb of God. He was the Passover lamb. He was the Lamb who was sacrificed to save the souls of all people, not just the first-born sons of the Israelites.

Jesus came to Jerusalem during Passover and was crucified right after Passover. The Orthodox celebrate Pascha (The Passion) after Passover for this reason.
