One of the finest ways to see wildlife and explore a unique environment, for even the most widely travelled safari-goer, is an Okavango Delta safari.

With splayed hooves, specially adapted to walking on reeds and lily beds, a glimpse of the rare, shy and elusive Sitatunga antelope would be an excellent “spot”. In contrast, one can view wildlife in close proximity by 4×4 vehicle; these are open and thus allow the various scents of the bush, such as the marvellously pungent wild sage, to be fully appreciated.

There are approximately 450 bird species including many wetland and wader species of which really wonderful spots are specials such as the white backed night heron and Pels Fishing Owl whilst the more common African Jacana use the lily pads as their highway; no-one can leave an Okavango safari without falling in love with the superb birds! Another memorable event would be time spent watching the otters in the waterways!

One of the most wonderful and humbling experiences on earth is walking with elephants; one can spend time with a trio of habituated elephants in the company of a leading authority on the African Elephant and this is a very special activity on a luxury Okavango Delta safari! But, put simply, the Okavango Delta is one of the most beautiful places on this planet and should be on everyone’s “once in a lifetime” list.

Let me tell you that in order to prepare and support your kid’s development, it’s essential that you carefully plan their practice schedule. Youth soccer drills designed to augment player’s skills must be performed if the players have to reach a given level of success.

In youth soccer coaching, teach the basics to the players first through the use of drills in practice sessions. This calls for adequate stretching and warm-up before starting the practice sessions. By doing the stretching and warm-up exercises players ready their body to take the physical stress in practice.

There must be an objective specific to each practice session. For this reason, identify and then focus on just one or two drills per week. Devise the training program in such a fashion that allows you to complete a different set of drills each week. When players start with the practice matches, they should be made to perform such drills that show up their areas if improvement.

Most of the matches are won by one team because the opposing team tends to wear out towards the end. So, make sure your strength exercises include such drills that make use of the soccer drills at every stage.

Youth Soccer Drills

Break up your youth soccer practice schedule into two different classes. Cardiovascular resistance and muscular strength can be two categories that result in developing alertness, power, co-ordination, pace, and quickness in the players.

Of all the youth soccer drills, the most interesting and effective warm-up drills are “running in formation”. This uses the entire team. It is a nice way to inculcate teamwork. The players get an opportunity to learn to stay in step with your guidance. And, it is wonderful to actually see your team running in great formation before the match.

Another useful drill is “Following the leader”. This leads to the players learning the ability to dribble the ball in cohesion. It also engages the entire team with each player having a ball.

Gaining access to the ball, also known as “touch on the ball” is a must in soccer. Use the “roll over” drill to teach the kids this skill. This drill is very enjoyable. The players may feel a little awkward at first because it may be difficult to keep the ball moving and going in a straight line. But they will improve a lot after practicing it.

This drill teaches the players balance, agility, and a touch on the ball.

The kids soccer drills should teach the players everything that they should know about soccer. This is best served by the “Karaoke” drill. When the kids practice it, they run, handle the ball, and keep their balance along with building cardiac endurance.

Don ‘t undermine its importance. Whenever there is a talk about youth soccer drills, this drill is best known to develop all the skills in the players.

Before you get on with coaching soccer drills to kids, let me share with you some teaching ideas that are sure to help you, whether you agree or not. During soccer practice, focus on a specific objective like kids must have loads of fun in the game as it benefits both the coach and the players.

Here, it’s easy to lose track of the fun part if you are not cautious. So, it is suggested that more specific objectives are decided upon that benefit not only the team but also the coach. For instance; constantly remind the players to remain physically fit, develop them into sporting players with a positive attitude towards the game, and concentrating on skills unique to them.

Since you are the coach, you only are responsible for setting high standards of sportsmanship for players. Encourage attitudes like fair play, team spirit, and sportsmanship. When teaching soccer, you have the option to include any number of relevant objectives along with the ones stated above.

In coaching youth soccer, winning is also an important concept that should be paid due attention. During the training sessions, introduce the open concept of winning and try to place it in their minds. Make them understand that so long as their play is up to the mark, they are the winners, irrespective of the final outcome.

Soccer Coaching

The players as a result will feel totally relaxed but much more responsible to play the game sensibly with the team’s objectives in their mind.

When coaching soccer drills, always keep in mind the importance of giving clear and correct instructions if they are to be helpful. Before coaching, you need to teach your players about some explicit do’s and don’ts in soccer. The difference in coaching and teaching is that the former is done with a group of players who are already familiar with the basic skills and concepts of the game.

While coaching drills, it is preferable to first demonstrate the drill to the kids and then give them a free hand in executing it themselves. This is because young players generally do not respond to oral instructions very well. If you try to explain everything as a lecture, they may not get it. However, they are good at replicating things.

Therefore, consider giving demonstrations wherever you can.

In the end, but still important is to keep the kids involved in several activities. This is all the more important when it rains or the weather is extremely cold. It is well known that the kids love playing in the rain. So, rather than just telling them to go home, it is more beneficial to find ways so that they can still enjoy soccer in some form.

Just make sure that in a situation like this, your kids have an extra layer of clothing and proper footwear.
